New publication by Sarah-Maria Thumbeck and Frank Domahs

Reading strategies can be used to better understand information that has been read. Reading strategies are also increasingly being used in speech therapy.

In the recently published study Efficacy of reading strategies on text-level reading comprehension in people with post-stroke chronic aphasia: A repeated measures study , Sarah-Maria Thumbeck, Philipp Schmid, Sophie Chesneau and Frank Domahs investigated the effect of reading strategies in 26 people with aphasia. After therapy with reading strategies, there were improvements in text comprehension. The participants also showed a more positive attitude towards reading and noticed improvements in their reading skills and in the performance of reading activities.

The study suggests that reading strategies can also be used in speech therapy with people with aphasia. However, it is still unclear which individual characteristics contribute to the success of the treatment.
