How can climate protection succeed in Germany? Barbara Schlomann provides insights into current challenges – and shows what is urgently needed now.
As Chair of the Expert Council for Climate Issues and her scientific and political expertise, Dr Barbara Schlomann is one of the most important voices in the German debate on climate protection, emissions reduction and the implementation of statutory climate targets.
The evening will focus on the questions of how Germany is making progress on climate protection, what challenges remain and what measures are needed now. It is also likely to focus on the role of independent scientific advice – especially in times when political decisions are being made under great social and economic pressure.
The Expert Council for Climate Issues regularly examines whether the German government's climate policy is sufficient to achieve the statutory targets. Its assessments repeatedly attract widespread public attention. Barbara Schlomann is therefore at a central interface between science, politics and society. The evening promises to provide well-founded insights into the state of climate policy and space for discussion about necessary steps in a changing world. The lecture is held in German.
The event will take place on Thursday, 28 May 2026, starting at 6.15 pm, with admission from 6 pm. All interested parties are cordially invited. Admission is free, registration is required at www.thueringer-allgemeine.de/ringvorlesung is necessary.
