Balthasar Fischer Prize for Dr. Samuel-Kim Schwope

This year the German Liturgical Institute in Trier is awarding the Balthasar Fischer Prize worth 3000 euros for the promotion of liturgical research to Dr. Samuel-Kim Schwope for his dissertation on liturgical celebrations for the sending out and commissioning of community and pastoral officers.

Dr. Samuel-Kim Schwope, born in Dresden in 1988, studied catholic theology in Erfurt and Freiburg i. Br. During his doctoral studies from 2016 to 2019 he was a member of the Theological Research Centre of the University of Erfurt. Since 2014 he has been the pastor of the diocese of Dresden-Meißen and since 2018 personal adviser to the Bishop of Dresden-Meißen and member of the diocese's liturgy commission. Schwope had submitted his dissertation to the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Erfurt in 2019. It was published in 2020 in a slightly revised version by Echter Verlag under the title „Gesandt, nicht geweiht? Sendungs- und Beauftragungsfeiern von Gemeinde- und Pastoralreferentinnen/-referenten“.

The Balthasar Fischer Prize, awarded for the eighth time this year, honours the life's work of Prof. Dr. Balthasar Fischer (1912 - 2001), the long-standing professor of liturgical studies at the Faculty of Theology in Trier.
