This year the German Liturgical Institute in Trier is awarding the Balthasar Fischer Prize worth 3000 euros for the promotion of liturgical research to Dr. Samuel-Kim Schwope for his dissertation on liturgical celebrations for the sending out and commissioning of community and pastoral officers.

Dr. Samuel-Kim Schwope, born in Dresden in 1988, studied catholic theology in Erfurt and Freiburg i. Br. During his doctoral studies from 2016 to 2019 he was a member of the Theological Research Centre of the University of Erfurt. Since 2014 he has been the pastor of the diocese of Dresden-Meißen and since 2018 personal adviser to the Bishop of Dresden-Meißen and member of the diocese's liturgy commission. The Balthasar Fischer Prize, awarded for the eighth time this year, honours the life's work of Prof. Dr. Balthasar Fischer (1912 - 2001), the long-standing professor of liturgical studies at the Faculty of Theology in Trier.
