Prof. Joas' field of research includes the relationship between religion and modernity. This often leads to areas of conflict in which non-believers and religiously influenced people are uncomprehending, if not hostile towards each other, as well as members of different religions. Hans Joas searches for what unites us and for possibilities of understanding and has developed a model for this purpose, with which religious patterns of experience can be interpreted and described.
