The establishment of arbitration is an important step towards improving the restitution of Nazi-looted property. It fulfils one of several requirements set out in the coalition agreement. Following the introduction of arbitration, this includes the creation of an effective restitution law in order to achieve a pacifying and legally secure solution for outstanding Nazi-looted property cases.
The Presidium of the arbitration panel for Nazi-looted property was appointed as a dual leadership with Dr Elisabeth Steiner and Peter Müller. In addition to Professor Christiane Kuller, the following arbitrators were appointed: Dr Julia Bešlin, Professor Magnus Brechtken, Professor Stephan Breidenbach, Professor Michael Brenner, Dr Annette Brockmöller, Peter Clausen, Helmut Dedy, Dr Axel Drecoll, Dr Caroline Flick, Nathan Gelbart, Professor Beate Gsell, Professor Isabel Heinemann, Dr Hans-Joachim Heßler, Dr Anja Heuß, Professor Benjamin Lahusen, Dr Sophie Lillie, Uwe Lübking, Dr Jürgen Matthäus, François Moyse, Peter Müller, Daniel Neumann, David Nossen, Dr Julien von Reitzenstein, Sebastian Remelé, Dr Jan-Robert von Renesse, Doron Rubin, Professor Leo Schapiro, Gudrun Schäpers, Dr Iris Schmeisser, Dr Elisabeth Steiner, Professor Natan Sznaider, Dr Katja Terlau, Professor Christian Waldhoff, Dr Avraham Weber and Johanna Werner.
The arbitration panel for Nazi-looted property will replace the advisory commission on 1 December 2025. Professor Christiane Kuller: "I am excited and look forward to being involved in this important step towards coming to terms with Nazi injustice."
