Course Details
The interdisciplinary Master's program in Theology and Economics is aimed at students who want to become active in Christian churches, charitable institutions or in social business enterprises. This includes, for example, administrative and management tasks in churches, Christian service companies, non-profit organisations and social business.
The Master's program builds on the Bachelor's programm in theology and economics and provides specialist skills and key qualifications.
Future decision-makers are to be enabled to analyse key areas of Christian theology and its ecclesiastical and social forms of organisation in a reflective manner and to develop strategies for action and concepts for companies against the background of Germany's market economy and social order, including its global interconnections.
This Master's program offers a theological qualification for the ecclesiastical and charitable labour market and the entire social business that goes beyond purely confessional theological education.

Structure of the study program
In the two fields of study, theology and economics, modules of 36 credit points each must be completed, 18 more can be taken individually in an elective area to deepen one or both areas. In addition, there is the Master's thesis in a theological discipline.

Examination regulations for the Master program Theology and Economics
Study abroad
A semester abroad in an English-speaking country is strongly recommended. The International Office will be happy to assist you in organizing your stay abroad.
Admissions qualification
The prerequisite for admission to the MA in Theology and Economics is a BA degree with theological and economic major or minor studies, or comparable studies.
BA degree in the subjects of study (in the scope of a minor subject = 60 LP):
- Christian theology and
- Economics (VWL/BWL/Management)
In case of missing requirements
If the requirements are not met, the MA Examination Board decides on exceptions and, if necessary, on BA modules to be made up for. These can then be covered within the elective area.
Within the framework of the certification programme it is possible to make up for missing minor subject knowledge amounting to 42 credit points (LP) within two semesters. The remaining 18 LP can be acquired in the elective area of the MA Theology and Economics. If a BA qualification in theology or economics is missing, this enables students to study at a manageable additional cost.
Language requirements
Language requirements
- English at level B2 of the European Framework of Reference and reading comprehension of Latin, biblical and theological texts or reading comprehension of individual, familiar Greek names, words and very simple sentences or reading comprehension of individual, familiar Hebrew names, words and very simple sentences.
- The proof of language skills in the ancient languages must be provided by the time of admission to the Master's thesis.
- German: Upon application, international applicants must prove German language skills at level B1.
Language Center
The Language Centre (Sprachenzentrum) offers around 140 language courses per semester in 16 modern and ancient (foreign) languages. It supports you in acquiring and deepening your language skills.
