Course Details

The major and minor subject in Catholic Religion will provide you with scientific and didactic skills across the theological subjects and will enable you to think independently, but also to teach them.

The students acquire:

  • knowledge of the origin and contents of the Bible and the meaning of the Bible in the present,
  • judgment and action skills,
  • mediation competence for Christian practice.

In addition, they reflect on the background of today's worlds of experience the:

  • history of the church,
  • basic statements of the Christian faith,
  • ethics,
  • liturgy,
  • right.

Catholic Religion in Detail

Structure of the study programme

The bachelor's degree course at the University of Erfurt comprises a major and a minor subject (two-subject bachelor's degree) as well as the fundamental course of study. It aims to impart specialist content and occupational field orientation as well as interdisciplinary skills. The standard period of study is six semesters.

Orientation Phase (First Year)

Qualification Phase (Second/Third Year)

Two-Subject-Bachelor

The major and minor subjects differ in terms of the content and scope of the course. In the major subject a Bachelor thesis is written.

Teacher training takes place in the Bachelor-Master study system. The degree is equivalent to the 1st state examination. Following the Master's program, you will complete the preparatory service, which concludes with the 2nd state examination.

Language requirements during studies

At the beginning of the studies:

  • German: Upon application, international applicants must prove German language skills at level B1.
  • Latin: extended basic knowledge
  • Greek: basic knowledge

If the required language skills are not yet available, they can be acquired during the course of study.
