We are pleased to announce that this year's meeting of the European Study Group of Nineteenth-Century American Literature will take place at the University of Duisburg-Essen. The focus of the workshop is on reanimating interest in Sui Sin Far/Edith Maude Eaton and re-reading her work in the light of the discipline’s contemporary concerns. This is also meant to tangentially inspire general reflections on the state of 19th-century American Studies in this disconcerting historical moment. In what ways can early and 19th-century American Studies contribute meaningfully to current discussions on the American continent in the years of the Trump presidency (and beyond)?
